Khan Academy has been struggling with funds lately and it was about time since it started cutting costs. Unfortunately, the Windows 8 app for KhanAcademy fell prey to the extensive cost-curtailing and the company says it doesn’t have the resources anymore to guarantee a high-quality user experience.
The app will be available if you have already downloaded it,but won’t work if you decide to uninstall and then re-install it, or if you haven’t downloaded it at all. Though the app is up on the Store to download for a few more days, users will be forced to migrate to the website afterwards.
Khan Academy posted its thoughts on the move a few days ago:
The post reads:
We saw huge potential and had big hopes for the app as a Universal Windows 10 app, with potential integration with features like Windows Ink or other major productivity hallmarks down the line. Even though a year ago it released its Xbox app, it’s disappointing to see it fall apart so quickly.
Heads up that the Khan Academy app for Windows devices will be removed from the app store in early October. If you have the app downloaded to your device, you’ll still be able to use it after this happens, but if you delete it you won’t be able to add it again.
We don’t currently have the resources to guarantee a high quality experience in this product, especially given its small user base, so the decision was made to sunset the app rather than extend a promise of a high-quality learning experience that couldn’t actually be delivered on.
That said, if you have any additional thoughts or reactions on this, please let us know here.
Another reason behind the move was how many Khan Academy students were unaware of the existence of any app at all. In the end, blunders made by Khan Academy’s promotion team coupled with a low user base have become the reason yet another app is pulled from supporting Windows.
If you still want the Khan Academy app, you’ll have to hurry before it goes away for good.
