Yesterday, Microsoft announced that they are expanding the Azure Government Secret service with an additional cloud developed for top-secret classified data, called Azure Government Top Secret.

It adds to the already available Azure (public cloud), Azure Government, and Azure Government Secret services, offering the same capabilities.

Presently, Microsoft is working with the US Government to obtain the ICD 503 accreditation for the new cloud.

Expanding the tactical portfolio for US Government customers

Since Azure Government Secret is used by the US Department of Defence, law enforcement, and other agencies, it’s expected that Azure Government Top Secret will be employed by the same agencies to enforce the security level for official state operations.

Apart from the new cloud that is ready to be rolled out, Microsoft confirmed that two other services have been included in Azure Government Secret, namely Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure Container Instances. They aim at an easier deployment and management of containerized applications.

The broad range of services will meet the demand for greater agility in the classified space, including the need to gain deeper insights from data sourced from any location as well as the need to enable the rapid expansion of remote work. Additionally, mission owners will benefit from greater choice in modernizing legacy systems, with a secure cloud platform that works on open standards and open frameworks with tools that work across a wide range of skill levels, from business analysts to developers to data scientists.

Moreover, two new intelligent security analytics services can now be used by the government agencies – Azure Sentinel and Azure Security Center – to collect and analyze data.

Given nowadays’ situation and the importance of mobility and teleworking, Microsoft mentioned that they are also working to make all Azure Government services available in work-from-anywhere scenarios, while ensuring security and productivity altogether.
